- the application of the NES
- the application of the Nurses’ Award 2010
- the operation of model disputes clauses
- transfer of business provisions
- general protections provisions
- unfair dismissal provisions
- union representation of members
Submission to the Queensland Government: 2012-2013 State Budget
Amongst other matters, this submission highlights a number of broad issues of relevance to the QLD budget raised by our members during the QNU 2011 annual conference and we continue to press for employment of new graduate nurses and a satisfactory settlement of our enterprise bargaining claims.
Submission to Queensland Health: Transition to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Control of Health
At this point, the QNU supports the concepts of transition to community control outlined in the draft policy framework, however we seek assurances from QH that it will resolve a number of important professional and industrial issues affecting our members and those of the community before the process can commence.
Submission to Queensland Health: Proposed restructure of QH Corporate Office
On 22 December, 2011, the State Secretary, Beth Mohle met with Shane Solomon to outline our concerns about the proposed restructure of corporate. Since that time, other QNU officials have also met with Mr Solomon on a number of occasions. In January, 2012 QH released the Implementation Plan for Restructuring Queensland Health (the final report) that sets out a proposal to devolve QH into two specialised entities.
Submission to the Health and Disabilities Committee: Inquiry into Severe Substance Dependence
In this submission we respond to the series of questions set out in the information paper and conclude with general comments that address some of the other issues associated with detoxification and rehabilitation. In addition, we provide commentary on the comparison between the Victorian, New South Wales and proposed Queensland models (Attachment A).
Submission to Dept Health and Ageing: Personally controlled eletronic health record system
In this submission we respond to the two areas identified in the proposal for consideration and outline our concerns about specific aspects of the PCEHR system. We note that technical design or administrative operations will drive some aspects of the PCEHR system and these will not require specific legal authority.
Submission to the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority: Towards a Pricing Framework
In this submission we respond to some of the questions posed in the discussion paper and outline our concerns about specific aspects of the proposed pricing framework. We believe that IHPA must first address major threshold issues affecting nursing and other professions – industrial relations regimes, skill mix and nursing workload allocation models – before it is able to develop a national efficient price for activity based funding.
Submission to the Independent Inquiry into Insecure Work
The Queensland Nurses‟ Union (QNU) thanks the Inquiry for providing the opportunity to comment on insecure work and its impact on workers, their families and the community. Our submission highlights particular areas of concern where Queensland nurses and midwives are vulnerable to precarious employment. This is a conundrum for the profession as these conditions exist alongside an ongoing workforce shortage that is set to increase in the next few years.
2010-2011 QNU Annual Report
All activities undertaken by the QNU in 2010/2011 aligned with the union’s Vision, Mission and Values Statements and Strategic Plan 2010-2012. This document, which was endorsed by QNU Council in late 2009, contains a list of overarching operational and strategic objectives to which the QNU and its employees are accountable, and broadly defines the union’s direction, focus and work going forward.
Submission to the Health and Disabilities Committee on Guardianship Laws Inquiry
The Queensland Nurses’ Union (QNU) thanks the Health and Disabilities Committee for providing the opportunity to comment on the Queensland Law Reform Commission’s (QLRC) recommendations on guardianship laws. In this submission we provide comments on specific items raised in the issues paper (2011).
Submission to the Health and Disabilities Committee - Inquiry into the public works project to construct the Queensland Children's Hospital
Our more than 45,000 financial members work across a variety of settings from single person operations to large health and non-health institutions, and in a full range of classifications from entry level trainees to senior management. The vast majority of nurses and midwives in Queensland are members of the QNU. As the construction of the new children’s hospital will affect some of our members, the QNU is very interested in all aspects of the project, however in this submission we only make general comments on workforce planning, service delivery and risk management.

BDO have audited the attached financial report which comprises the statement of financial position as at 30 June 2011, and the statement of comprehensive income, statement of changes in equity and statement of cash flows for the year then ended, a summary of significant accounting policies other explanatory notes and the management committee's declaration.
Submission to the House Standing Committee on Regional Australia: FIFO workforce practices
The Queensland Nurses’ Union (QNU) thanks the House Standing Committee on Regional Australia (the committee) for providing the opportunity to comment on the use of ‘fly-in, fly-out’ (FIFO) workforce practices in regional Australia. In this submission we set out our concerns about the impact that FIFO practices are having on communities, particularly the nurses and health care workers that support them. The QNU recognises that the expansion of mining activity has affected many regional areas in Queensland and other states. In this submission we highlight the Mackay region in the Bellyando Shire.
2011 Your Work, Your Time, Your Life Summary Report
