Scholarships & bursaries

The QNU each year offers scholarships and bursaries to assist nurses, midwives, and nursing students with study or research, or to attend major conferences.

Scholarships and bursaries available include:

  • QNU Registered Nurse Scholarship
  • QNU Enrolled Nurse Scholarship
  • QNU Assistant in Nursing Scholarship
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Nurse/Midwife Scholarship
  • Student Conference observers scholarship

QNU Registered Nurse/Midwife Scholarship

Value

This scholarship is valued at $3000 and may be awarded in whole or in part.

Purpose

The purpose of this Scholarship is to assist a Queensland Registered Nurse/Midwife to attend conferences or seminars, or to undertake post-graduate studies or research which will benefit Queensland nurses generally.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants must be Registered Nurses or Midwives in Queensland and be a financial member of the QNU for the 12-month period immediately preceding the application.

Closing date

QNU Enrolled Nurse Scholarship

Value

This scholarship is valued at $3000 and may be awarded in whole or in part.

Purpose

The purpose of the QNU Enrolled Nurse Scholarship is to assist a Queensland Enrolled Nurse to undertake pre-registration nursing studies, attend conferences or seminars, or undertake programs which will benefit Queensland nurses generally.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants must be an Enrolled Nurse in Queensland at the time of the application and be a financial member of the QNU for the 12-month period immediately preceding the application.

QNU Assistant in Nursing Scholarship

Value

This scholarship is valued at $3000 and may be awarded in whole or in part.

Purpose

The purpose of the QNU Assistant in Nursing Scholarship is to assist a Queensland Assistant in Nursing to undertake appropriate nursing studies* or attend conferences or seminars which will be of benefit to their on-going professional development.

*For example,  Certificate 3 in Aged Care Work or Certificate 4 in Aged Care Work, or the Enrolled Nursing course.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants must be an Assistant in Nursing and a financial member of the QNU for the 12-month period immediately preceding the application to be eligible for this scholarship.

QNU Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Nurse/Midwife Scholarship

Value

This scholarship is valued at $3000 and may be awarded in whole or in part.

Purpose

The QNU is committed to closing the gap in indigenous health outcomes. This scholarship has been introduced to enable an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander working in nursing or midwifery to enhance their professional skills through appropriate study.

Criteria for selection

Applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and currently working in Queensland in nursing or midwifery at any classification or level.

Applicants must also be a financial member of the QNU for the 12-month period immediately preceding the application to be eligible for this scholarship.

Pat Nicholls Scholarship

Value

This scholarship is valued at $500 and may be awarded in whole or in part.

Purpose

The Pat Nicholls Scholarship is intended to continue the work of long-standing QNU member Pat Nicholls, who brought the same determination in her battle against diabetes as she did in every endeavour.

This scholarship has been introduced to advance diabetes education and promotion by supporting a member working in this field.

Criteria for selection

Applicants must be currently registered in Queensland and be a financial member of the QNU for the 12-month period immediately preceding the application.

Applicants must also be working to advance diabetes education and promotion.

Conference Scholarships

Purpose

The Queensland Nurses’ Union (QNU) Council has resolved to award five scholarships to pre-enrolment/pre-registration student members in nursing and midwifery to attend the 2011 QNU annual conference, to be held in Brisbane from 11-13 July 2012.

The scholarships will cover travel and accommodation (where necessary) and also conference registration and the conference dinner.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants must be a financial member of the QNU to be eligible for this scholarship.

Student Book Bursaries

Purpose

Each year the Queensland Nurses’ Union (QNU) awards eight $500 book bursaries to undergraduate university and TAFE nursing students as part of the Union’s commitment to building and supporting the nursing profession.

The QNU hopes that these book bursaries will be a small step towards relieving the financial pressure for students.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants must be a financial member of the QNU to be eligible for this scholarship.

Bauer-Wiles Book Bursary

Value

This book bursary is valued at $300 each year.

Purpose

The purpose of the Bauer-Wiles Book Bursary is to assist a Registered Nurse undertaking post-registration nursing studies at a university in Queensland or interstate. The Bursary must be used for purchase of books, appropriate to the course, which will be suitably inscribed.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants must be currently registered in Queensland and be a financial member of the ANF Queensland Branch for the 12-month period immediately preceding the application to be eligible for this bursary.
