Public sector Christmas and New year closure arrangements
Published: 20 October 2011
The compulsory closure arrangements for the 2011/12 Christmas and New Year period have been announced by Queensland Health’s workplace relations unit (HR Circular 07/11) and are set out below:
|
These compulsory closure details and any associated restricted staffing arrangements relate only to the 2011/12 Christmas/New Year period (i.e. 26 December 2011 to 2 January 2012 inclusive). During the compulsory Christmas/New Year closure, one day of concessional leave is given on full pay without debit to any leave account. The balance is to be deducted from an employee’s annual/recreation leave balance, TOIL or accrued hours. Continuous shift workers receiving the additional week of annual/recreation leave do not participate in the closure arrangements and do not receive the concessional day. Queensland Health employees participating in the compulsory closure are to take leave as follows:
Part-time employeesA part-time employee is only entitled to the concessional leave day if Wednesday 28 December 2011 is one of their regular ordinary days of work. A part-time employee’s regular ordinary working hours cannot be amended purely to attract the benefits of the concessional day. RostersIt is important that rosters accurately reflect local arrangements to ensure correct payment occurs during this period. As a courtesy, early notification of the consideration to close a health service and establish an on-call roster during the compulsory closure period should be extended to all employees. |
