About the campaign

There are some serious issues affecting nurses and residents in aged care.

There are simply not enough nurses in aged care and those that remain are overworked and underpaid. Aged care nurses will tell you that it’s the quality of care that residents receive that’s suffering the most.

Our campaign

There’s a lot that can be done to improve this situation. It all starts with the government making some decisions about the way funding is allocated to aged care facilities.

Coordinated by branches of the Australian Nursing Federation including the QNU, our campaign
Because We Care: Quality care for older Australians calls on the federal government to act and properly fund aged care by introducing:

  1. The right balance of skills and nursing hours so that nursing and care staff can provide quality care for every resident
  2. Fair pay for aged care nurses and care staff who are paid up to $300 per week less than nurses in other sectors
  3. Recognition of the professional skills of Assistants in Nursing and care staff through a national licensing system
  4. A guarantee that taxpayer funding is used for nursing and personal care for each resident.
