The federal government has asked the Productivity Commission to develop detailed options for restructuring Australia’s aged care system to ensure it can meet the challenges facing it in coming decades.
The commission is particularly interested in receiving submissions from nurses and carers about your experiences with aged care services and your ideas on how the system could be improved.
The QNU will be making a comprehensive submission and we are also seeking the views of individual members for this important inquiry.
We need to inundate the Commission with our ideas and concerns to ensure we influence what they recommend to the federal government in their draft report.
Nurses and midwives from all sectors can participate in this important activity.

Here’s how to participate
Below you will find a template Word document that will enable you to complete your submission. Use the headings contained in this document as a framework for writing your submission. These headings are based on the key objectives of the QNU and ANF’s Because We Care campaign for quality aged care, which seeks to improve the industry for aged care nurses and the residents in their care. We have also included some key points below each heading that you may wish to include or expand upon in your own submission.
Alternatively, you may wish to write a short letter outlining your views on a particular topic, or submit a much more substantial document covering a range of issues. Where possible you should provide evidence, such as relevant data and documentation, to support your views.
Please ensure you complete the first page of this document (cover sheet) so the Productivity Commission can confirm you’re a real person with real concerns (all personal details such as your home and email address, phone and fax number will be removed by the Commission before it is published on the website for privacy reasons).
All submissions received by the Commission will be published on their website for public viewing. However, under certain circumstances the Commission can accept sensitive material in confidence, where it is of a personal nature or could be potentially damaging to you or your employment. This information should be supplied separately to the main submission and clearly marked 'Personal in confidence'.
