Successful delegates statewide webcast meeting
Published: 2 August 2012
The first statewide delegates webcast meeting was held yesterday. Feedback from union leaders indicate that it was a huge success with 300 delegates gathering at the QCU in Brisbane and thousands online throughout Queensland. The meeting endorsed a statewide day of action on Wednesday, 12 September, including a major community rally in Brisbane at lunchtime on that day, (details to follow).
The link below will ask you to register then you’ll be able to access an “on demand” webcast of the meetings held yesterday.

The following resolutions were carried unanimously:
That this meeting of delegates of QCU Affiliates:
1. Condemns the LNP Government for its cuts to the delivery of public and community services for Queenslanders, that have resulted in huge job losses which will detrimentally impact on the Queensland economy;
2.
2.1 Rejects the headline figure of $100 billion in state debt as the basis for budget cuts and unfair changes to workplace laws as this projection is based on exaggerated assumptions designed to paint the worst possible scenario for the Queensland economy;
2.2 Notes the very positive overview of the Queensland economy and the state’s financial position in the Queensland Treasury Corporations current investment prospectus, which is in sharp contrast to the alarmist findings in the Costello report;
3. Supports a long term campaign to defend our way of life and the rights of Queensland workers beginning with a day of community wide protest and action on 12 September, including “Stand for Queensland” community rallies, workplace /public events and activity, as well as a publicity campaign to defend Queensland’s Workers’ Compensation system.
4. That this meeting of delegates of QCU Affiliates calls on unions, where possible, to strike on September 12 to give maximum impact to the QCU day of action. (Moved from the floor of the Brisbane meeting.)
