ANF condemns gaoling of Bahraini nurses

The Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) has condemned the unjust gaoling of a group of nurses and other health care professionals in Bahrain.
The 20 health professionals were sentenced by a Military Court in Bahrain on charges of "trying to overthrow the government".
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) says the health professionals were fulfilling their ethical duty by treating people injured and wounded during the social unrest and violent clashes in Bahrain earlier this year.
Rula Jassim Mohammed al-Saffar, a leader of the Bahrain Nursing Society, received a sentenced of 15-years.
"The ANF joins the ICN in its condemnation of these very lengthy sentences handed down to the nurses and other health professionals," ANF Assistant Federal Secretary, Yvonne Chaperon, said.
"We are concerned that these health professionals have been sent to goal for merely carrying out their ethical obligations by treating the injured and wounded.
"The ANF supports the ICN in calling for the charges to be dropped so these health professionals can be reinstated and continue their work in caring for people."
