QNU 2009-2010 Annual Report

Published: 6 December 2010

Earlier this year, the QNU implemented a new Strategic Plan to cover the period 2010-2012. Included in this document, which was signed off by QNU Council in late 2009, are a set of vision, mission and values statements as well as a list of overarching operational and strategic objectives.

The new Plan incorporates feedback from members, Councillors and officials, and broadly defines our Union’s direction, focus and work going forward.

To enable us to better track our progress on implementing the operational and strategic objectives contained in this new Plan, we continue to enhance our internal reporting structures. From comprehensive quarterly reports to Council from QNU officials to implementing specific strategic objectives through internal working parties and member driven reference groups, we have structures and processes in place to enable us to best represent the interests and values of members.

We also continue to work with peak bodies such as the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), through the ANF, and the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU), to maintain our focus at a state and national level.

At our last QNU Annual Conference, in July 2009, delegates endorsed the QNU Statement of Union Values. Adapted from the ACTU’s statement of values, this document commits the QNU to the needs and interests of all working Australians and their families. In essence, we have committed to fairness, equality and opportunity in the community and security and fairness in the workplace. Members can find this document on our website.
