Published: 22 February 2012
All activities undertaken by the QNU in 2010/2011 aligned with the union’s Vision, Mission and Values Statements and Strategic Plan 2010-2012.
This document, which was endorsed by QNU Council in late 2009, contains a list of overarching operational and strategic objectives to which the QNU and its employees are accountable, and broadly defines the union’s direction, focus and work going forward.
A new QNU Council began its two year term in January 2011. The 26 person body is made up of 24 honorary elected representatives, and two full-time paid officials.
Sally-Anne Jones was elected President of the new QNU Council and Stephen Bone Vice President.
QNU Council is the union’s overarching decision-making body. It is responsible for managing the affairs of the QNU in accordance with the priorities identified in the QNU’s Strategic Plan, as well as for overseeing the implementation of Annual Conference decisions.
After her 16 year stewardship, Gay Hawksworth retired from the position of QNU Secretary in April 2011. At this time, QNU Council endorsed that Beth Mohle fill the casual position of Secretary, and Des Elder fill the then vacated Assistant Secretary position.
Also in 2011, Lee Thomas was elected to the role of Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) Secretary following the resignation of Ged Kearney, who became president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Yvonne Chaperon was elected as Assistant Secretary of the ANF.
