Gay-portrait-2007

Gay has been Secretary of the QNU for the past 14 years.

Under her leadership, the QNU has become a strong and effective professional and industrial body which represents the interests and values of nurse and midwife members.

Gay has kept a firm focus on improving the wages and conditions of all members through strategies and campaigns underpinned by a solid organisational, industrial, professional and legal framework.

As Secretary, Gay has overseen the development of the QNU to an organising union where collective action and campaigns for change are balanced by strong individual member support and assistance.

Increasing nursing and midwifery shortages and workloads are major and growing challenges for the QNU, and Gay ensures our Union continues to lobby and advocate for members in this regard through political, industrial and professional means.

Gay ensures our union is future focused. Under her direction, the QNU has grown dramatically to over 40,000 members, which ensures we have a strong collective voice with which to bargain for improvements for nurses and midwives and to nursing and midwifery.

As Secretary, Gay has specific responsibility for the day to day management of the QNU.

Gay is a member of the Australian Nursing Federation Executive and Council and Senior Vice President of the Queensland Council of Unions.  She is also on the board of Q Super and is Deputy Chair of the Management Committee of Union Shopper.

Under Gay’s leadership the QNU has become a modern, democratic and relevant union where members have the power to make a difference.

Gay is committed to ensuring the QNU continues to remain responsive and relevant to the needs and interests of members.
