QNU Website Privacy Policy
The QNU is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth) from December 21, 2001. This Policy is to be read in conjunction with QNU’s broader Privacy Policy.
1. Use of External Hosting Service The QNU’s website is hosted by an external Internet Service Provider (ISP). The QNU only uses reputable ISP providers which have established appropriate Privacy Policies related to the collection, storage and use of information associated with the services provided to the QNU and other users.
2. No Linkages to QNU databases or other internal QNU information systems The server that hosts the QNU website is external to the QNU and QNU systems and there are no linkages between information held by the QNU and the QNU website or external server. In particular, information stored in our membership database or internal filing system is not accessible from or linked to our website in any way.
Confidential information related to QNU activities, QNU Branches, individual members or groups of members is not displayed or accessible through our website without the express consent of the person/s concerned.
3. Collection of Statistical Information – External Provider Our external provider collects statistical information related to the use of our website. This information includes:
- The date, time and lengths of visits to the site, including pages accessed and documents downloaded - Your server’s IP address (a number which is unique to the machine through which you are connected to the internet) - Your domain name (if applicable/available) - The type of browser and operating system you are using - Referrer activity (that is, the site or search engine you used to locate or visit our site from)
(Note: this information is not collected with the aim of identifying individual visitors to the site and is collected by the external provider for purposes related to the technical structure and performance of their service and to track usage for billing the QNU for services provided. The information is available only to authorised employees of our ISP and is not publicly available or made available to anyone external to WebCentral or the QNU.)
The e-mail addresses or details of those accessing our site are not automatically collected, stored or used by our ISP or the QNU for any purpose.
4. Access to statistical information – QNU The statistical information collected by our ISP (as listed in 3. above) is available to authorised QNU employees only. The information is available to the QNU via a secure passworded server. The information is used for internal QNU reporting on the usage of the website. Information for this purpose is only reported in aggregate (eg. no. of visits to the site etc) and individual identifying information is not used or reported for any purpose.
5. Information you provide through the QNU website The QNU website provides opportunities for visitors to the site to provide feedback, to order QNU Information, for example, Information and Policy sheets and to enrol in QNU training courses on-line. The information you provide through our website is delivered to the QNU as normal E-mail. (See QNU Privacy Policy with respect to E-mail) and dealt with as normal correspondence by the QNU.
Information obtained from these sources may be used for reporting purposes, however, if this is the case the information is reported in aggregate only (eg. no. of orders, enrolments etc).
We may use your e-mail address for any purpose for which you provided it. We may also use it to respond to feedback given about our Site or Services, to provide you with any information you request, to confirm receipt of e-mails you have sent to us or if we need to contact you for any other reason.
Non-members who provide information to the QNU via our website feedback, order or enrolment forms may be sent promotional information about the QNU on a once only basis where access to the information or service requested is limited to members of the QNU.
E-mail addresses of members or non-members who have ‘interacted’ with our website are not stored or recorded by the QNU.
Information which is provided to us through the website will be kept confidential. This means that we will not reveal, disclose, sell, distribute, rent, licence, share or pass onto any third party any personal information that you may have provided to us unless we have your express consent to do so. The only exceptions to this may be where:
- We are required to disclose such information by law or industry code of conduct - We reasonably believe that disclosure may prevent injury or threat to life of a person.
6. Staff e-mail addresses Staff e-mail addresses may be made available through the QNU Website or provided to members by individual QNU officials.
7. On-line surveys Broadly, the QNU does not conduct on-line surveys. However, where such surveys take place in the future they will be accompanied by appropriate disclosure of information relating to: - Why the information is being collected - What the information will be used for - How the information will be used - The measures taken to secure the confidentiality and privacy of any responses received
