Day of action - Wednesday, 7 October 2009
Did you see Queensland nurses and midwives on Wednesday, October 7?
Wearing our bright blue t-shirts and with balloons and placards in hand, QNU members made a visual statement at events across the state on Wednesday, October 7.
As part of our Day of Action for aged care, nurses and midwives from public and private hospitals joined their colleagues from the aged care sector to give a very public face to our campaign.
The key aim of the Day of Action was to get as many of our Because We Care postcards signed as possible. Thanks to the hard work of QNU members we were able to get thousands signed!
We’ll be presenting these postcards to your local Members of Parliament as a display of support for our campaign in the lead up to the 2010 federal budget. We want to make sure the government provides adequate funding for aged care in their next budget, as well as ensures accountability and transparency around how these funds are spent.
Delegations of members and staff also met with a number of Federal MPs on the day to discuss the key aims of our campaign and to share their own stories about working in aged care.
From Toowoomba to Cairns and Bundaberg to Mt Isa, community members and fellow nurses and midwives were extremely supportive of our campaign. We know that with this support we can make a real difference in this campaign!
Thanks to all involved for making our Day of Action such a success!!
