Speak out about NMBA fee increase!
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has raised its 2012 registration fees to a whopping $160 despite promises that nurses and midwives would get cheaper registration under a national scheme.
The 40% increase, which will slug hardworking nurses and midwives an extra $45 a year, is simply not good enough.
This unjust fee hike is well above Consumer Price Index increases and wages growth, and we canít see how an increase of this magnitude is required purely for the registration management and administration of nursing and midwifery.
The fee rise is yet another blow to nurses and midwives after the poorly handled transition to a national registration scheme which left many nurses and midwives temporarily unregistered and unable to practise.
Nurses and midwives deserve better than this.
We urge all nurses and midwives to make the NMBA aware of our views on this fee increase and are launching an email campaign calling on the NMBA to put a freeze on further increases.
