The QNU provides a range of legal services and assistance to financial members of the Union.

Legal advice and or representation may be provided to members in relation to legal matters that arise as part of a members’ paid employment such as:

  • termination of employment
  • workers’ compensation
  • professional misconduct and disciplinary proceedings
  • award entitlements.

The QNU employs expert legal staff with the knowledge and skills to provide representation in the following areas (where appropriate):

  • State and Federal Industrial Relations Commissions/Courts
  • Magistrates Courts
  • Workers compensation matters including Medical Assessment Tribunals and IndustrialMagistrates Court, and appeals
  • Queensland Nursing Council
  • Coronial inquests—when the member is required by law to attend
  • Crime and Misconduct Commission
  • Anti Discrimination Commission/ Tribunal
  • Specially constituted commissions of inquiry.

QNU members should contact the Union as soon as legal advice is required. Statements regarding issues of a legal nature should not be submitted until you have contacted the Union.
