Workplace health & safety

As well as being an industrial issue, workplace health and safety (WPH&S) is a top priority for the QNU.

The Union’s OH&S strategy is to lower the high level of workplace injury and illness through an increased emphasis on prevention and supporting better WPH&S awareness and activity in the workplace.

The QNU employs a full-time Workplace Health and Safety Officer who not only represents nurses and midwives at a national, state and local level on various boards and committees, but is also involved in complicated workers’ compensation claims and the promotion of health and safety in the workplace.

The QNU has been instrumental in promoting and supporting workplace health and safety campaigns, such as the ‘no lifting’ policy aimed at reducing the number of manual handling injuries suffered by nurses.

The QNU also publishes an annual Workplace Health and Safety Yearbook which is available on request or can be downloaded by members.
