AHPRA: Queensland nurses and midwives urged to renew online and on time

Published: 8 June 2011

NMBA-150The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia today urged nurses and midwives in Queensland whose registration expires on 30 June to renew online and on time.

Board Chair Anne Copeland said the Board was encouraged by the renewal response already received from the 57,000 Queensland nurses and midwives due to renew by 30 June 2011.

With three weeks to go before the 30 June expiry date, more than 65 percent of practitioners due to renew have done so.

"It is fantastic that many nurses and midwives due to renew have heeded calls to apply early and I would encourage all in the professions to use the online service for quick and easy renewal," Ms Copeland said.

"Nurses and midwives who do not have their unique User ID for online renewal can request it via an online inquiry form or by calling 1300 419 495."

Ms Copeland also encouraged nurses and midwives to supply the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Board with their email address, so they can receive regular and direct communication about renewal.

"Also, setting an email account to receive communications from AHPRA and the National Board avoids misdirection to an account junk box and ensures our messages are getting through," she said.

A small number of Queensland nurses and midwives were due to renew by 31 May 2011 but some have yet to do so and should renew immediately if they wish to keep practising.

"I urge anyone due to renew by 31 May who has not yet done so to act quickly as they will remain registered until 30 June, but registration of a nurse or midwife due on 31 May, that does not have an application to be renewed, will lapse," Ms Copeland said.

Nurses and midwives can check that their application has been received through the AHPRA website at www.ahpra.gov.au. Practitioners whose application to renew registration has been received can practise while their application is being processed.

From 2012, all nurses and midwives will be due to renew their registration on 31 May each year.

Nurses and midwives can check their registration expiry date on the National Registers of Nurses and Midwives, published online at www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au. The best way to search the registers is by name and profession.
