Damning report from Auditor General into QH payroll debacle

Published: 29 June 2010

Queensland’s Auditor General has released a damning assessment of the Queensland Health pay debacle.

The report highlights fundamental failings of risk and project management that were underpinned by a lack of accountability for and governance process surrounding delivery of the project. This is astounding given that the project implementation costs to the end of March 2010 totaled more than $101 million.

The Queensland government has committed to implementing all seven recommendations of the report and has also announced that they will:

  • Move to a local health payroll model and re-examine the use of the WorkBrain rostering system over the next three months;
  • Issue a Show Cause Notice to IBM and reserve its right to withhold final payment and seek damages; and
  • Overhaul CorpTech and abandon the one-size-fits-all approach to payroll across government departments.
The QNU is in the process of analysing the full report and also has meetings scheduled to discuss implementation of the report’s recommendations. We will make a further report available to members in the near future.
